Clean Water Supply in Cambodia Increases by 72% by 2024

In a significant development for public health and well-being, the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation announced that the supply of clean water across Cambodia has increased by an impressive 72% from 2018 levels, bringing the total volume to approximately 530 million cubic meters as of 2024.

During the inauguration ceremony for the Takhmao Water Treatment Plant and the new Koh Nora Raw Water Pumping Station on August 14, 2025, Minister Hem Vandy highlighted the remarkable growth in clean water accessibility. He noted that the supply had risen from around 309 million cubic meters in 2018, marking an increase of nearly 530 million cubic meters over the six-year period.

The Phnom Penh Autonomous Water Supply Authority has played a vital role in this achievement, contributing approximately 59% of the total clean water supply. Additionally, the number of households benefiting from clean water services has skyrocketed from 781,908 in 2018 to an impressive 2,982,831 households in 2024.

Minister Vandy emphasized the ongoing efforts to enhance production capacity, stating that the Phnom Penh Autonomous Water Supply Authority has boosted its output to over 1 million cubic meters per day since late 2024. The distribution network has also expanded significantly, stretching over 5,000 kilometers to reach more communities.

The newly inaugurated Takhmao Water Treatment Plant will further support this initiative, providing up to 23,000 cubic meters of clean water daily to households, businesses, and industrial zones, ensuring that even more residents have access to safe drinking water.

As Cambodia continues to invest in its water infrastructure, the government remains committed to improving public health and promoting sustainable development throughout the nation.
