Compensation Cleared for Residents Impacted by 700MW Power Plant in Koh Kong

The Royal Group has cleared all land issues and compensated 58 local families living nearby the 700-megawatt coal-fired power plant project it is building in Koh Kong province, according to a Provincial Administration report on 28 July.

The 58 families live in Thmor Sor commune, Botum Sakor district with compensation given to owners of any affected area including land, trees, and houses, etc. under the company’s policy.

This coal-fired power is being built with a total investment of US$1.3 billion after the Royal Group received a concession by the government in March this year.

The project also includes the constructions of a 230-KVA power line linking to the government-owned Botum Sakor sub-station, a two-lane 6km coal transport bridge and coal storage depot, a 40km access entrance to the project, and a sub-station. (Read more)

Upon completion, Electricite du Cambodge (EDC) will purchase 80% of the energy from the plant every year.
