Gov’t Spends Approx. US$60m for Impact Resettlement of Ring Road 3

To date, the Cambodian government has spent a total of US$60 million to manage the impact resettlement of the Ring Road 3 project, while construction is expected to be completed one year later than scheduled also due to the impact resettlement issue.

PM Samdech Hun Sen said during the NR3 inauguration ceremony on Wednesday 2 March that the government has allocated the budget 32 times to deal with compensation of the Ring Road 3 project, each time around US$2 million.

“The third ring road, besides the amount of money financed by China, the government has also allocated at least US$60 million for compensation of the locals living nearby already,” said Samdech Techo Hun Sen.

The project is being built with a US$273 million loan from China, while the budget to compensate affected villagers, demine, and deal with import tax on construction materials is the responsibility of the government.

Recently, the construction company has requested to finish the project one year slower than the initial schedule due to the delay in the impact resettlement procedure.

Initially, the project was scheduled for completion by September 2022. With the one-year delay, the new completion date will be September 2023. (Read more)
