Construction Begins for New Large-Scale Cold Chain Facility at Phnom Penh Port

The construction of a new large-scale cross-docking and cold storage facility has officially begun at the LM17 container terminal in Kandal province.

The ground-breaking ceremony was presided at by the Minister of Public Works and Transport HE Sun Chanthol and other development partners on Tuesday 22 March.

The construction of the cold chain storage facility is an investment by InfraCo Asia through Khmer Cold Chain Company with help from development partners such as the UK, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Australia, among others.

The cross-docking and cold storage facility includes a 50-foot dock and over 36,000 m3 of space for pre-cooling, co-packing and labelling, sanitary and phytosanitary services (SPS), picking, and direct store delivery.

This new cross-docking facility will also provide temperature-controlled logistics (TCL) services.

According to the study, Cambodia will need at least 140,000 m3 of cold chain facility by 2030. Upon going operational, this new cold chain facility will contribute over 25% to that goal.

Speaking at the event, HE Sun Chanthol said that cold chain storage is very important to respond to economic development in Cambodia and also expressed sincere thanks to the development partners in assisting Cambodia in this sector.
