Construction Investment in January 2019 Up by 178%

H.E. Chea Sophara, Minister of the Ministry Land Management, Urban Planning, and Construction

Investment value in the construction sector in January 2019 was recorded as more than US$800 million, a 178% jump compared to the same period of 2018, according to the Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning, and Construction.

During the 1st Meeting of the Public-Private Platform for “Urban Development, Cambodia-Japan” which was held on 27 February, H.E. Chea Sophara, Minister of the Ministry Land Management, Urban Planning, and Construction (MLMUPC) mentioned that the total investment capital in the construction sector over the past decade from 2010 to 2019 values more than US$ 43 billion.

“In January 2019 alone, the investment value in this sector was US$829 million, which is 178% higher compared to the same period 2018,” said H.E. Chea Sophara.

This rapid growth was stimulated by the influx of investment from both domestic and oversea investors. According to H.E. Chea Sophara, the ministry has to date given licenses to a total of 2,307 construction companies, more than 2,500 architects, and more than 30,000 engineers.

In addition to this positive movement, H.E. Chea Sophara also mentioned that Cambodia investment opportunities within the industry remain open for all investors, especially in the sectors of infrastructure and urban development.
