Construction of 34 roads worth US$300 million in Sihanoukville 90% complete

The construction of 34 city roads in Sihanoukville province costing nearly US$300 million is now 90% completed, according to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport’s official Facebook page on 16 May 2020.

The 34-road construction program in Sihanoukville is seeing the renovation and expansion of roads with a total length of over 82 km constructed by seven construction companies is scheduled to be complete in 8 months, but by 16 May 2020, 90.60% of the work was complete.

Ground was broken on the project on 16 November 2019 and the total cost is nearly US$300 million.

Prime Minister Hun Sen said at the opening ceremony of a cement factory in Kampot province on 14 November 2019 that the roads in Sihanoukville city will be built of 20cm-thick cement concrete covered by rubberised asphalt to ensure they are fit for heavy transportation in the province which sees busy container truck traffic.

The renovation and expansion of the 34 roads in Sihanoukville has seen them being completely rebuilt with a particular focus on ensuring life-long quality after being catastrophically damaged by rapid development and flooding in recent years. The program will transform Sihanoukville to be modern, beautiful, environmentally friendly place to live, and for tourism and business.
