Construction of Khmer-Thai Stueng Bat International Border Checkpoint 20% Complete

The construction of the US$24 million Stueng Bat-Ban Nong Ian international border checkpoint located nearby the existing Khmer-Thai Poipet checkpoint in Banteay Meanchey province is now 21.05%.

This is according to a site inspection by the Minister of Public Works and Transport HE Sun Chanthol on the morning of 30 June.

Besides giving an update on progress, HE Sun Chanthol also encouraged the construction and technical consulting companies to embrace high technical standards while performing their tasks and also urged them to speed up the work so that the project can be completed as scheduled.

According to the minister, the infrastructure for the project includes border checkpoint buildings, dormitory buildings, transit terminals, warehouses and container yarda, and administrative buildings.

The project is being built by CM Grand Development Co., Ltd & Tan Kim Eng Co., Ltd and technically supervised by Team Consulting Engineering and Management PLC.

The project is expected to cost approximately US$24 million (or 835, 250,168 baht), which is a loan from the Thai government through the Neighbouring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency (NEDA).

According to the plan, the construction will take 24 months to complete. Once operational, it will first help ease the congestion at the Poipet checkpoint and will also open up new opportunities for international cooperation, investment, cross-border trade, job creation, tourist attractions, among others.
