Construction of New US$1.5-million Port in Koh Kong Begins

The Ministry of Public Works and Koh Kong provincial hall this morning broke ground on the construction of a new port worth US$1.5 million, to facilitate the travel of tourists and the transport of agricultural goods.

Located on Prek Koh Por River in Smach Meanchey district, Khemarak Phoumin city, the new port will be 69 metres-long and 16.5 metres-wide. The project also includes the construction of two concrete bridges, 8 metres-wide and 8-metres-long.

This new section is being built to replace the port in the city, while the construction is expected to take two years to complete.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Koh Kong Governor HE Mithona Phouthorng said that the new port in Koh Kong province has great potential in terms of trade.

“The port can ease the transportation of goods between two other major provinces, Battambang and Pursat, then to Vietnam and Thailand,” said HE Mithona.
