Construction of Ring Road No.3 Begins

Construction on Ring Road No.3 linking the capital of Phnom Penh to Kandal Province has been officially inaugurated by Cambodian Prime Minister SamdechTecho Hun Sen.

On 14 January 2019, Samdech Techo Hun Sen presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the 52.9-kilometre Ring Road No.3 which stretches through Kandal Province for 38 kilometres and Phnom Penh for 15 kilometres. The road is 27 meters wide in the downtown area and is 25 meters wide in the outskirts of the capital. The road is being built using a US$273 million loan from the Chinese government.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said that the construction of this route will benefit many people, especially those living along the route.

“People that benefit are those who live along the road through jobs, sales, and providing other services. The biggest beneficiaries are those who live in Koh Anlen Cheng area of S’ang District, Kandal Province because we have to build a 25-metre wide bridge”, he said.

Meanwhile, H.E Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) highlighted that the project will also include four flyovers spanning about 1000 metres. The construction of Ring Road No. 3 will take 42 months starting from December 2018 until December 2021.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E Wang Wentian expressed his support and appreciation for the construction project, which is in line with the Chinese proverb that ‘if you want to be rich, you have to build a road first’ and the Khmer proverb that ‘by having a road there is hope’.

“The Ring Road No.3 Project will be the starting point for the construction of the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville expressway,” he added.
