Construction Safety Handbooks Campaign Goes Nationwide

The Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction (MLMUPC) in cooperation with Cambodia Constructors Association (CCA) are currently working on a nationwide campaign to educate on-site construction workers, construction companies, as well as related government officers safety instruction.

The campaign is being done through the newly published construction safety handbook and the goal is to deliver and promote the books to all 25 provinces in the kingdom within this year.

“Safety is very important in the construction site as accidence can happen at any time if the workers are less cautious and do not know the proper safety instruction knowledge. Therefore, this campaign is to help educate all the workers about the safety instruction and to ensure that everyone in the site practice and follow the safety regulations and rules in the safety books,” said Mr Chiv Sivpeng of the MLMUPC.

“We do not educate only the on-site workers, but also the business owners, as well as the related government officers as well since everyone, are involved and responsible when accidence happens,” he added.

Regarding the safety handbooks, 10,000 copies of the safety books will be available and so far 8,000 has been published, of which 5,000 copies are sponsored by CCA and 3,000 by Canadia Bank.

“At this stage, we are educating and promoting them first. However, by the end of this year, we will start inspections on construction sites. If any sites disobey the safety regulation, they will face the punishment. If the case is serious, the site will be ordered to close,” said H.E. Lao Tep Seyha, the undersecretary of state of Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction.
