Laos Mulls Connecting Railway with Cambodia to Enhance Cambodia-Laos-China Logistics

Laos has recently announced plans to connect the railway system with Cambodia, aiming to expand bilateral trade and transport systems, as well as establish a complete transport chain between Cambodia, Laos, and China.

The plan was unveiled by Loas during the visit of Deputy Prime Minister Men Sam An to Laos’s large dry port, the Vientiane Logistics Park, on 15 September.

During the meeting, the CEO of Vientiane Logistics Park said that the company plans to connect the railway from Laos to Cambodia.

The Cambodia-Laos railway link will be an important means of transportation for transporting goods, especially agricultural products from Cambodia to China. This line will shorten the transporting time and make it more effective, said the CEO.

Deputy Prime Minister Men Sam An said that this project is a long-term vision of Laos and she will bring this project to discuss with Cambodia’s government for further cooperation.

Vientiane Logistics Park is one of the largest dry ports in Laos built with a local investment of more than US$700 million.

The project connects and will connect railways from Laos to China and ASEAN countries, and from Laos to European countries such as Germany.

The project will allow a landlocked country like Laos to connect to the rest of the world.
