Exciting Development: New Public Restrooms Coming to Phnom Penh’s Walk Street!
In a fantastic move to enhance the visitor experience, the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration is set to build an additional 37 public restrooms along the vibrant Walk Street, which has recently been recognized as the second-best destination in the world for nightlife. This announcement was officially shared on social media on May 2, 2025, reflecting the city’s commitment to accommodating its growing number of tourists.
Under the direction of His Excellency Khuong Sreng, Governor of the Phnom Penh Municipal Government, the forthcoming facilities will include 22 restrooms for men, equipped with 10 sitting rooms and 12 standing toilets, 14 dedicated women’s restrooms, and a specially designed bathroom for individuals with disabilities.
In tandem with this initiative, plans are underway for a significant renovation of a 172-meter stretch of the scenic riverbank, alongside a 22-meter slope, aimed at elevating the aesthetic appeal of the area. The riverbank renovation is scheduled for completion within a month, while the restroom construction is expected to take around three months.
Mr. Sam Piseth, Director of the Phnom Penh Municipal Department of Public Works and Transport, expressed that both projects are geared towards preparing for the upcoming Royal Boat Festival and ensuring that tourists enjoy a comfortable and welcoming experience in the popular Walk Street area.
