GGGI Gives Go Signal for E-Bus Implementation in Cambodia

Cambodia’s public transport system is on its way to a cleaner and greener future with the implementation of electric buses (E-Bus) in Siem Reap. The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) recently confirmed the feasibility of the project after a preliminary study. HE Minister Sun Chanthol Ban met with the GGGI delegation on 6 March 2023, to discuss the results of the study.

According to GGGI, the study showed that the project could be carried out without any problems. A national strategy for managing and operating public transport services using E-buses in Siem Reap is currently being studied, with plans to use it as a model for other cities if successful.

Aside from the E-Bus project, GGGI is set to study air quality improvement projects in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, scheduled to begin in early April 2023, with an estimated two-year study period, funded by France through AFD. The institute also plans to focus on waste management and improving health and hygiene in the future.

It’s worth noting that the General Department of Land Transport previously partnered with CDIA to conduct a full study project on the feasibility of establishing a public bus system in Siem Reap.

This project is a significant step forward for Cambodia’s efforts towards sustainable development and reducing carbon emissions. With the support of organizations like GGGI, the country can continue to push towards a greener future. (Read more)
