Five Reasons Why Gov’t Selects Mondulkiri as Kingdom’s Fourth Economic Pole

The Cambodian government recently approved the implementation of the Mondulkiri Tourism Development Master Plan for 2021-2035. Through this long-term vision, Mondulkiri province has been chosen as the kingdom’s fourth economic pole.

According to the Prakas of the Ministry of Tourism, here are the reasons why:

1. Studies have shown that Mondulkiri has a high opportunity to develop into international tourism proven by the significant increase in numbers of tourists and investment activities every year.

2. Mondulkiri province is very diverse in terms of natural and cultural resources, which creates a wide range of investment opportunities.

3: The province already has well-connected infrastructure with more development projects coming including the establishment of a standardised water supply system, electricity, and waste management.

4: Land usage and zoning in this province remain uncertain. Therefore, the master plan is critical to encourage more investment.

5. Studies have shown that the province will attract more than 2 million tourists per year in the near future which will help create about 80,000 jobs and generate about US$500 million. Thus, the establishment of the master plan is very vital to manage this expected increase.

Besides the aforementioned reasons, the Cambodian government has also pledged to develop Mondulkiri in a green-sustainable manner with a regular plan review every five years to ensure effective implementation.
