Former Kampot airport to be used for clean water supply project

An area of the old unused Kampot province will be used for a clean water project to supply clean water within in the coastal province of Kampot.

The Kampot Provincial Administration has decided to hand designate five hectares of land on the site of the old airport, located in O’ Touch village, Andong Khmer commune, Kampot city to the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MISTI) to develop a clean water supply project.

Phou Lik, Deputy Governor of Kamport, told Construction & Property Magazine on 17 June that seven hectares of land remain on the former Kampot airport, five hectares of which has been now been given to the MISTI for developing clean water supply project.

“The project is true, and five hectares of land has already been given to the industry ministry for the clean water supply project. However, the investment on the project has not yet started,” Phou said.

To date, firms from China have expressed interest in investing in this project but they have been silent due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” he added.

Mr Lik said, “In the province, shortage of water supplies has not yet become a problem. Yet, the provincial administration is also considering more investment in clean water supply for our people, especially for tourists during the time of high water consumption, because Kampot province is a potential attractive tourist destination.”
