French Experts Collaborate with Cambodia to Launch Cyclotron System for Enhanced Cancer Treatment

In a significant advancement for cancer care, French experts are joining forces with the Cambodian Ministry of Health to establish a cutting-edge cyclotron system at Calmette Hospital. This initiative aims to provide advanced treatment options for cancer patients across the nation and eliminate the need for seeking medical attention abroad.

During a recent meeting, HE Professor Chheang Ra, Minister of Health of Cambodia, and Mr. Christian Meriau, Director of GIP CYROI, discussed the installation and operation of this state-of-the-art cyclotron system. The project is strategically designed to meet the growing demands of patients for high-quality care within Cambodia, thereby enhancing local healthcare capabilities.

One of the critical aspects of this initiative is its focus on studying radiation safety and protection, which will lay the groundwork for the establishment of additional cyclotron medical facilities in the future. This project aligns with the National Cancer Control Strategy and aims to strengthen cancer diagnosis and treatment in Cambodia.

Professor Meriau expressed his admiration for the efforts at Calmette Hospital, particularly its commitment to constructing a Cyclotron Center that will house a PET CT machine—a significant step toward keeping pace with global medical advancements. He outlined several goals associated with the project, including:

1. Training Cambodian students and professionals in cyclotron technology.

2. Offering internship and research opportunities for those interested in pursuing careers in cyclotron-related fields.

3. Deploying cyclotron experts to train local professionals within Cambodia.

4. Leading the construction and operational phases of the Cyclotron Center at Calmette Hospital.

This initiative promises to transform cancer care in Cambodia, providing access to advanced treatment options that were previously unavailable. The completion of the Cyclotron Center is poised to set a new standard in cancer care, reflecting Cambodia’s dedication to enhancing its healthcare system for the benefit of its citizens nationwide.
