Kampong Chhnang-Kampong Thom Bridge Second Priority to Kratie-Kompong Thom Bridge

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT)’s spokesman HE Vasim Sorya has said that the proposed bridge connecting Kampong Chhnang to Kampong Thom province, which would become the Kingdom’s longest, is a second priority after the Kratie-Kampong Thom bridge, on which construction is set to begin this year.

HE Vasim Sorya said on 25 February that the government is first focusing on the construction of the bridge crossing the Mekong River connecting Kratie and Kampong Thom province.

“Definitely, we will build the Kampong Chhnang-Kampong Thom bridge, and it is on the prioritised list. However, it will not be this year. For now, we are working on the Kratie bridge first. The next prioritised project will proceed respectively,” HE Sorya said.

The announcement from the government about constructing the Kampong Chhnang-Kampong Thom bridge was made a few years ago but little news has emerged since.

According to the information at the time, the bridge is expected to be 3,600 metres long connecting Kampong Leng district of Kampong Chhnang and Stung Sen city of Kampong Thom. (Read more)

If successfully built, the project will become the longest bridge in the kingdom, overtaking the current longest bridge Tsubasa bridge (Neak Loeung bridge), stretching 2,215 meters long.
