Government Inaugurates CONFIREL Fishmeal Factory to Enhance Local Production

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries celebrated the inauguration of the CONFIREL fishmeal factory today, marking a significant milestone in Cambodia’s efforts to boost local production within the fishing industry. The ceremony was officiated by His Excellency Has Sareth, Secretary of State for the Ministry.

In conjunction with the inauguration, His Excellency also launched the 3rd Roadshow on fisheries products, a collaborative effort involving the Ministry, the European Union Delegation, and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) under the Post-Harvest Fisheries Development Project (CAPFISH-Capture).

During his address, His Excellency emphasized that the inauguration not only showcases the capabilities of Cambodian enterprises but also highlights the fruitful collaboration between state institutions and the private sector. This partnership aims to strengthen the agri-food sector in Cambodia, ultimately supporting food safety and enhancing the contributions of the fisheries sector to economic development.

The Secretary of State remarked on the significance of the promotional campaign, which will visit enterprises across Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Kampong Cham provinces. Journalists will have the opportunity to observe firsthand how local fishery products are being processed. These products, once limited to local fish markets, are now making their way into international markets, including Australia, France, Korea, and beyond.

“Our commitment to promoting Cambodian products and expanding our export capacity plays a crucial role in the overall growth of the fisheries sector,” stated His Excellency. He also urged enterprises to collaborate closely with local farmers and modern agricultural communities to develop a robust supply chain. This collaboration is essential for promoting agricultural development, accessing new markets, ensuring price stability for key products, and enhancing the resilience of agri-food products.

As Cambodia continues to strengthen its position in the global market, the government’s initiatives like the CONFIREL fishmeal factory and the promotional roadshow signify pivotal steps towards securing a sustainable and prosperous future for the fisheries industry and agriculture in the country.
