Government to Seek Investment for Road Linking Three Provinces

In a bid to ease travelling and transportation, the government is seeking investment capital for a road construction project linking three major provinces, according to an announcement made by Cambodia’s head of government.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Ring Road No.3 on 14 January, 2019, Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen announced a plan to build infrastructure connecting Koh Kong, Pursat and Battambang provinces.

“We are looking for investment to build a road connecting Koh Kong to Thmor Da of Pursat province and the Cambodian-Thai border, then from the Cambodian-Thai border to Samlaut of Battambang making it as a corridor” he said.

The construction of this road would be so that people in Koh Kong would not find it difficult to travel from National Road No. 4 to Phnom Penh and continue to Pursat to Battambang, Samdech explained.

Meanwhile, in relation to the investment capital, H.E. VaSimsorya, spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) told Construction&Property Magazine that the government is currently requesting a loan from China, in the hope that the project will begin implementation in 2019.

Regarding travelling time on the new route, H.E. VaSimsorya is not yet able to estimate how much time can be reduced from current journeys.

“We are not sure yet until it is constructed, and it can have some problem, as it will be in the mountainous area. It can be shortened [length of road], but it’s a little too high [road], so we need to study the ability for container trucks”, he said.
