Gov’t Designates Two Mountains as Natural Heritage Sites

The Ministry of Environment (MoE) has designated two natural mountains in Kampot as natural heritage sites to protect their ecosystems for the benefit of all generations, according to Sub-Decree No.12 and Sub-Decree No.13 dated 22 January 2021.

The first site is Preah Kuhear Mountain, which has a total area of 25 hectares and is located in Tuk Meas Khang Lech commune, Banteay Meas district in Kampot province.

The second site is Totong-Phnom Touch Mountain, which has a total area of 83.44 hectares and is located in Dang Tong and Banteay Meas districts in Kampot province.

The objective of the designation to protect the beauty of the natural landscape and the natural value of the areas for entertainment, sightseeing, education, science, and understanding.

Since 2016, the Ministry of Environment (MoE) has issued sub-decrees to establish 11 historic mountain resorts as natural heritage sites occupying a total area of over 28,000 hectares. (Read more)
