Gov’t to Develop Sustainable Eco-tourism Zones in 7 Target Provinces

The Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Rural Development are working together to develop sustainable eco-tourism zones in seven target provinces.

According to an official meeting on Wednesday14 July, those seven provinces include Kampong Speu, Koh Kong, Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Battambang, Siem Reap and Kampong Thom.

Meanwhile, the destinations will include the Aoral Mountain Wildlife Sanctuary, Central and Southern Cardamom Mountain National Park, Tatai and Samkok Wildlife Sanctuary and Samkos, the Cardamom Mountain Biodiversity Conservation Corridor and the Tonle Sap Lake Multi-use Area.

According to the plan, the project consists of marking borders for each zone, establishing park ranger stations and information centres, as well as building necessary infrastructures connecting to those areas.

To date, the ministries have already set investment plans and work directions with private firm Emerging 360.

This project is being implemented under the financial support of the World Bank for a six-year period (2020-2025).
