Ground Broken on 100-megawatt Power Plant in Preah Sihanouk

Ground was officially broken on a 100-megawatt coal-fired power plant in Preah Sihanouk province last week.

According to a post on the Sihanoukville provincial administration’s Facebook page, the power plant an investment by one of China’s leading clothing companies HOdo Group Co Ltd, and is located in the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone (SSEZ).

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Mr Zhou Haijiang, president of HOdo Group, said “for the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone Phase 2, this coal-fired power plant projects [will have an] five boilers and four generators that can produce 100 megawatts of electricity”.

For the construction of the coal-fired power plant in the first phase, the company will install three boilers and two power generators, which will provide 190 kilowatts of electricity and 540,000 tons of thermal power after completion of the construction.

Mr Zhou Haijiang also said that the first phase of the 10-year development of the SSEZ has attracted enterprises from China, Europe and the ASEAN countries totaling 161 enterprises and creating 29,000 jobs. These enterprises operate businesses such as manufacturing clothes, bags and suitcases, building materials and household appliances.

Through the establishment of the power plant, Mr Zhou Haijiang believes that the supply of thermal power and electricity in the SSEZ will be stable and can enhance the business structure and expand production, promote competitive efficiency in the region, and promote special economic development.
