Hong Kong Firm Builds a Unique Style Rainwater Collection System in Battambong

Hong Kong architecture firm Orient Occident Atelier has built an unique rainwater collection system in Snoeng village of Battambong province, to mitigate drought and provide clean water to the community.

According to DeZeen, the project comprises of two water halls building with the loose and honeycomb brickwork structure to purified water before usage.

The first hall is a closed brick structure with the underground pumping system transferring water from a nearby lake and purify them.

Meanwhile, the second building is a half-open hall, with an inner and outer half-wall, with a metal roof built in the shape of a bowl to funnel rainwater into a traditional ceramic vessel.

According to the Orient Occident Atelier, the project is built by combing the modern architectural shapes with native building materials and handicraft, so that it can create a unique but also practical architecture.

The project was built with a fund of the Orient Occident Atelier and also the Hong Kong Institute of Architects Community Project Fund, with aims to provide clean water to local people as well as address the drought in Snoeng village.
