Hyundai Engineering wins US$164m bid to build third AEON Mall

Hyundai Engineering of South Korea has won a US$164 million project to build the third AEON Mall in Cambodia, according to a Hyundai staff member quoted in the Korea IT TIMES on 19 April 2020.

This project is to build a five-story shopping centre and parking facility on a total area of 174,000 square meters which is larger than sum of the AEON Mall I (68,000 square meters) and Sen Sok AEON II (100,000 square meters) combined.

According to the CDC, the construction site is located in Prek Ta Long 3 village, Chak Angre Kroom commune, Meanchey district, Phnom Penh. The construction period will be about 27 months after starting and this third shopping mall will open in 2023. (Read more)

This is the second time that Hyundai Engineering has won a construction project from AEON Mall (Cambodia) Co., Ltd, one of Japan’s largest distribution groups, which operates more than 200 shopping centers around the world. The first project was US$120 million AEON Mall 2 located in Sen Sok District of Phnom Penh which opened in May 2018. (Read more)

According to Korea IT TIMES, since it first entered the Cambodia construction market in 2009 Hyundai Engineering has carried out a number of projects in Cambodia including local road maintenance and improving the KOICA HRD Center, the ACLEDA Bank extension project, and the new Phnom Penh Tower construction project.
