IFC Partners with Cambodia for Feasibility Study of Sihanoukville Logistics Complex

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank has teamed up with Cambodia’s Ministry of Public Works and Transport to provide financial advisory services for the feasibility study of the Sihanoukville logistics complex (SHV-LC). The signing ceremony for the Financial Advisory Service Agreement was held on 19 April in the presence of HE Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.

The Sihanoukville Logistics Complex is one of the two priority logistics hubs that Cambodia aims to develop. The project will be developed in phases with an estimated overall capital cost of around US$200 million. The ministry also plans to establish logistics center projects in Bavet and Poipet cities in the near future.

“Our objective is to position Cambodia as a regional logistics transfer hub in Southeast Asia,” said HE Sun Chanthol. “By working with IFC, we can leverage their global expertise as we explore best options to leverage private sector engagement in the development of this critical logistics infrastructure in the country.”

Cambodia has recently completed the Tonle Bassac Navigation and Logistics Project, which has shown great potential for benefiting the national economy, with an assessment of the Economic Internal Rate of Return (EIRR) higher than the average rate set by national and international institutions.

This partnership between Cambodia and IFC is expected to boost the country’s economic growth and create opportunities for private-sector investment. (Read more)
