Iron Bridge Crossing Tonle Sap 60 Percent Complete

The construction of iron bridge connecting Russey Keo to Chhroy Chongva district is currently more than 60 percent complete, and is scheduled to fully finish before Khmer new year to help ease the highly congested traffic in Phnom Penh.

This 506-meters long and 12-meters width bridge is a temporary bridge built to help ease the traffic during Cambodia-Japan Friendship Bridge is under renovation. It stretches from Sokimex petrol station of National Road No. 5 to the Chroy Chang Satellite city.

At this stage, it is process of putting on the bride body parts on the pillars. Therefore, during this period, all boat transport operators are urged to slow their speed when crossing the construction site to avoid big waves which will distract the construction.

Started the construction around October last year, this iron bridge worth about USD10 million which is funded by the Overseas Cambodia Investment Corporation (OCIC). While Cambodia-Japan Friendship Bridge will finish its renovation on July 2019.

Besides, there is also another concrete bridge across the Tonle Sap river that was grounded breaking by Prime Minister Hun Sen at the same with the iron bridge. The bridge is 20.5 metres wide and 500 metres long and will take about 2 years to complete with an estimated cost about USD35 million that is also funded by OCIC.
