Japanese Company Investments Boosts Cambodia’s Electronics Sector

In a significant move for Cambodia’s burgeoning electronics industry, Minebea (Cambodia) Co., Ltd., a prominent Japanese firm, has announced an additional investment of approximately USD 15 million to further expand its electronic equipment manufacturing operations in the country. The announcement came during a meeting between HE Chea Vuthy, Secretary General of the Investment Committee of Cambodia, and Mr. Kensuke Watanabe, Director of Administration and Human Resources at Minebea, held on 4 February 2025.

During this constructive discussion, the two officials explored the legal and regulatory frameworks surrounding the company’s expansion plans. Minebea’s commitment to invest an additional USD 15 million underscores the firm’s ongoing dedication to the Cambodian market, where it has been operational since 2011, contributing over USD 700 million to the local economy by producing various electronic components.

Moreover, the company is continuing its growth trajectory, recently constructing its second factory within the expansive Krakor Special Economic Zone. The new facility, covering approximately 50 hectares in Saravan village, Sna Ansa commune, Krakor district, Pursat province, is expected to significantly bolster local employment and enhance the region’s industrial capabilities.

With this latest investment, Minebea reaffirms its role as a key player in Cambodia’s industrial landscape, attracting further foreign direct investment and fostering economic development in the region. As the company advances its operations, the local workforce and industrial ecosystem stand to benefit immensely from this influx of capital and expertise.
