JICA Provides US$58-million Loan Expanding SR’s Water Supply Capacity

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Cambodia has decided to provide an approximately US$58-million concessional loan to Cambodia for the expansion of Siem Reap’s clean water supply capacity.

The loan agreement was signed virtually on 21 October between Minister of Economy and Finance HE Aun Pornmoniroth and Head of the Japan Cooperation Agency in Cambodia (JICA) Ms Kamei Haruko.

The project will expand the treatment capacity of the Siem Reap water treatment plant to over 60,000m3/day by using water sources from the Tonle Sap Lake, according to the ministry’s press release.

The project also includes the construction of a pumping station network, water distribution pipeline system, and water treatment plant.

The ministry stated that this project will contribute significantly to helping Cambodia achieve the National Strategic Development Plan on water supply.
