Government Announces Plans for Modern Logistics Centre in Sihanoukville

The Cambodian government has officially unveiled its ambitious plans to establish a state-of-the-art logistics centre as part of the Sihanoukville Logistics Centre Development Project. This initiative aims to integrate logistics services for both domestic and international loading and unloading of goods and containers.

During a recent meeting with a delegation from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank, Deputy Prime Minister HE Sun Chanthol discussed the progress of this significant project, which has been under study since April 2023. The logistics centre is designed to enhance the capabilities of the Sihanoukville Port Special Economic Zone (SPSEZ), ultimately increasing cargo capacity and bolstering the growth of Cambodia’s logistics sector.

In addition to traditional logistics services such as transportation, warehousing, consolidation, and distribution, the newly proposed centre will offer advanced services including cargo management systems, customs clearance for incoming and outgoing goods, and streamlined access to other service providers like bonded warehousing.

The project is anticipated to introduce modern logistics solutions, such as cold chain management, less-than-container-load services, and vendor management inventory systems. A total investment of approximately USD 200 million is expected to be allocated for the project’s phased implementation. (Read more)

This initiative aligns with the Prime Minister’s recent announcement of a nearly USD 1 billion investment plan to position Sihanoukville as a regional logistics hub by 2029, highlighting the government’s commitment to enhancing Cambodia’s logistics infrastructure and economic growth. (Read more)
