Khmer New Year Sees Surge in Tourist Arrivals

 

In an impressive display of cultural celebration, Cambodia welcomed approximately 23,977,441 tourists during the three-day Khmer New Year festivities, marking a robust increase of 9.9% compared to 2024. This significant influx, comprising both national and international visitors, was reported by the Ministry of Tourism today.

From 14-16 April 14 2025, the country witnessed a remarkable flow of travellers, totalling 23,862,351 national tourists and 115,090 international visitors. The daily breakdown revealed a record number of tourists, with 14 April attracting 5,685,223 visitors, 15 April seeing 8,365,724, and a staggering 9,926,494 on April 16.

The ministry highlighted the provinces and cities that garnered the most attention from visitors. Phnom Penh led the way with 2,863,922 tourists, followed closely by Siem Reap with 2,752,818. Other notable destinations included Kampong Cham (2,748,228), Prey Veng (2,394,343), and Battambang (1,741,795).

This substantial increase in tourist numbers has translated into significant economic gains for Cambodia. Hotels, restaurants, and tourist resorts across nearly all provinces reported nearly full capacity during the celebration, showcasing tourism’s essential role in the nation’s economic development.

As the country revels in the success of this year’s Khmer New Year, the Ministry of Tourism emphasises the importance of continuing to promote domestic and international travel, which is a crucial driver for Cambodia’s economy.
