Koh Kong Kroa Island’s future development potential expects, once enlisted as a “marine national park” in 2021

The Royal Government is studying development projects on Koh Kong Kroa Island, the country’s largest island, with a total area of 103 square kilometers; and expects to transform it into a “marine national park” in 2021.

On June 4, the Royal Government of Cambodia issued a decision on the establishment of a commission to oversee development in Koh Kong Krao, in Koh Kong province. The commission is chaired by the Minister of Environment, HE Say Sam Al, accompanied by a number of senior officials from relevant ministries, especially from the Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Land and Ministry of Tourism.

According to the decision, the team is responsible for overseeing the entire Koh Kong offshore development project of Koh Kong S.E.Z Co. Ltd; as stated in the letter No. 847 SCN ​​dated 14 June 2019 Office of the Council of Ministers and reports on the results of work to the Royal Government.

Regarding the issue of “the Marine national park,” the Ministry of Environment stated in a press release of the Ministry of Environment on June 3, 2020, after a small group of people came out to act as environmentalists, demanding action to save natural resouces in Koh Kong Krao area and to transform it as a protected area.

The Ministry of Environment said that the ministry had been paying close attention to the protection and conservation of the Koh Kong Krao area, sending experts to study documents and data related to the island since 2016. Even though without that few recent pseudo-environmental activists, the ministry plans to list the island as a “marine national park” by 2021 after the study completion.

Koh Kong Krao is the country’s largest island, with a total area of ​​103 square kilometers, 7 kilometers wide, about 19 kilometers and also the highest island in the Gulf of Thailand, up to 418 meters above sea level, According to data from Koh Kong’s deputy governor, Sok Sothy is giving a telephonic interview to Construction and Property News on June 6.

The island is located in the village of Koh Kapi, Koh Kapi commune, Koh Kong district, Koh Kong province, approximately 30 kilometers from the town of Khemarak Phoumint. The area is rich in natural resources and biodiversity, with beautiful beaches on the vast expanse of blue sea, rich in natural resources, wildlife, coral, coral and marine biodiversity.

Talking about the beach, Sok Sothy said that the beach is surrounded by six beautiful beaches like the paradises. The beauty of the island includes a long coconut plantation beaches covering the island. The first coconut plantation beach is 1,800 meters long. The second coconut plantation beach is spread over an area of ​​2050 meters. The third coconut beach is 3, 700m long. The fourth coconut beach is 4, 900m long. The fifth coconut beach is 5, 750m long and the sixth beach is 650 m long. In particular, these beaches have not been developed so much so that the scenery is all natural.

There are 10 beautiful mountain waterfalls on the island, each with up to 30 floors. Today, the Koh Kong Krao area is under the control of the Marine Corps.
