KRock Brings the First Khmer Tile Design to the International Stage

Over the past seven years, leading Cambodian roof tile manufacturing firm KRock has been working non-stop to design, enhance, and modernise ordinary Khmer tiles into a standardised tile with intellectual property rights registered in over 10 countries.

According to KRock Manufacturing Co., Ltd owner Oknha Ly Chhuong, the ultimate goal of his firm is to make Cambodians proud of Cambodian products.

“We want Cambodians to believe that Cambodian products also have high quality and design that is not inferior to foreign ones. That is why we strive to produce the best tiles ever,” said Oknha Ly Chhuong.

“We also have been so far secured intellectual property rights in many countries. Doing so does not only protect our product design from intellectual fraud but also a way to showcase Khmer identity, creativity and civilization on the international stage as well,” he added.

Known as “Sra Ka Linh” in Khmer, KRock is a traditional Khmer roof tile that has served many generations. Sra Ka Linh title is popular for its beautiful local fish scale pattern with bright and vivid colours.

Recognising the long history of this type of tile, KRock has decided to modernise it by keeping the traditional design but adjusting the raw material and size for better quality and convenience.

KRock has changed the raw material of tile from clay to concrete mix with high tensile strength for longer and more durable usage. Meanwhile, the size of the tile is also bigger making it more convenient and cost-effective to install.

Oknha Ly Chhuong continued that the production of KRock tile is customers centric, by studying all the defects and issues that consumers face in general tile usage, solving them, and integrating all the solution into KRock tile.

“KRock roof tile is also known for its aesthetics with many options and colours to meet all types of roof architecture and preferences. Besides, given the new production technology, the tile can strongly withstand wind and rain. The sun-resistant paint will also remain vivid up to 10 years,” said Oknha Ly Chhuong.

“Last but not least, KRock is very cost-effective. As the size is large, it does not require a lot of components during the installation process,” he added.

Given these factors, KRock tiles have been receiving a lot of positive feedback from customers, proved by the huge amount of purchase orders especially from big well-known construction project owners in the kingdom.

The products have been used in many significant projects such as Borey Peng Huoth, Orkide Villa, Borey Phnom Penh Thmey, as well as ACELEA Bank.

Besides being the leading manufacturer and renowned in the roofing industry, KRock also manufactures other products such as pre-cast concrete panels as well as terrazzo.

With the working philosophy of ‘Never Stop Improving’, the firm is also committed to further research to improve the quality and design to another level.
