Lvea Aem district to be partially integrated into Phnom Penh city

Lvea Aem district of Kandal province, on the eastside of Chaktumok river, has been confirmed to be partially integrated into a new district of Phnom Penh.

The confirmation of the establishment of this new district has been made along with the plan of constructing a new bridge crossing the Mekong River linking Chroy Chongva to the Akreiy Ksatr area of Lvea Aem.

Speaking at a religious ceremony held on 28 February at Monysovann pagoda, Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen said that upgrading a part Lvea Aem district to become a district in Phnom Penh comes in response to the fast pace of urbanization of Phnom Penh city.

“That area is located in Kandal province. However, due to the rapid development of Phnom Penh, we will take some part [land] and include that in Phnom Penh, and will also do that again in future,” said Samdech Hun Sen.

According to Samdech Hun Sen, this new district of Phnom Penh taken from Lvea Aem will be implemented upon the completion of the Chroy Chongva – Akreiy Ksatr bridge.

Regarding the bridge construction, Samdech Hun Sen said in early February that the government would prioritize the Chroy Changvar – Svay Chrum bridge by utilizing a US$700 million loan recently provided by the South Korean government for 2019-2023. (Read More)
