Major Progress on Phnom Penh Water Discharge System Project

The much-anticipated water discharge and rainwater diversion system in the Prek Peam Sattha area is nearing completion, with progress reported at approximately 77.8%. This significant advancement was confirmed during an inspection led by His Excellency Tho Jetha, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology, alongside key Ministry officials and technical experts.

The Prek Peam Sattha project is a crucial component of the broader initiative aimed at mitigating flooding in Phnom Penh. It focuses on effectively channeling water from the northern Rolang Chrey area through various routes, including O Khsach and Boeung Tamok, eventually leading to Tonle Sap Lake.

Key aspects of the project include:

1. Restoration of the Prek Peam Sattha waterway, stretching 18.7 kilometers with a width of 100 meters.
2. Construction of a modern water pumping station featuring nine powerful pump motors.

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology previously reported that the comprehensive water diversion project, which encompasses regions in Kandal, Kampong Speu, and Takeo provinces, is nearing full completion. (Read more)

The project comprises three distinct phases and focuses on eight main areas to enhance flood management, including:

1. Improvement of the 51-kilometer Stung Toch in Kampong Speu and Kandal provinces.
2. Enhancements to the Stung Krom Tonle Bati in Kandal province.
3. Upgrades to the Three-Line Choeung Canal, which spans 27.5 kilometers west and south of Phnom Penh.
4. Developments on Canals 59 and 90, covering 18.8 kilometers in the Kandal Steung district.
5. Construction of Canal 96 and Prek Kong, a 34-kilometer stretch in Takhmao city.
6. The Prek Peam Sattha canal extends 18.7 kilometers through Phnom Penh and Kandal Province.
7. Enhancements to the Rolang Chrey-Slakou Canal, measuring 58.45 kilometers in Samrong Tong District, Kampong Speu Province.
8. Connection of the O Khsach Canal from Laang Chrey North to Boeung Tamok, which is 27.7 kilometers long in Ang Snoul District, Kandal Province. (Read more)
