Cambodia Achieves Major Milestone in Clean Water Access

As of the third quarter of 2025, Cambodia successfully connected water supply networks to over 1.54 million households across the nation, a significant achievement in expanding access to clean water. This landmark announcement was made by His Excellency Minister Hem Vandy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation, during the inaugural International Clean Water Conference and Exhibition held from October 14-16, 2025.

Minister Hem Vandy emphasized the critical role of clean water, stating, “Clean water is the foundation of public health, economic activity, and industrial growth. It must be of good quality, safe, sustainable, and affordable.” He underscored that 36% of the clean water distributed is produced by private operators, highlighting the vital contribution of this sector in enhancing water services throughout the country.

During his address, the Minister called on all water operators to adhere to national clean water quality standards and to collaborate closely with the ministry as the Royal Government prepares to establish a dedicated clean water regulatory body.

Mr. Leng Khieu, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cambodian Water Supply Association, also spoke at the event, noting that the conference attracted representatives from various ministries, development partners, private sector water operators, and international experts from around ten countries. He highlighted the importance of knowledge exchange and technological innovation in helping Cambodia achieve Sustainable Development Goal 6.1, which focuses on ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

The three-day event attracted participation from over 100 companies showcasing modern clean water treatment and supply solutions. It featured technical presentations, business networking opportunities, and hands-on demonstrations designed to support water operators in modernizing infrastructure, improving service quality, and enhancing resilience to climate change impacts.

The conference not only provided a platform for collaboration and learning but also reinforced the commitment of all stakeholders toward improving water quality and accessibility for all Cambodians.
