Kampong Cham Welcomes New $13 Million Clean Water Facility to Boost Public Health

The provincial capital of Kampong Cham has marked a significant milestone in its urban development with the official inauguration of a major clean water supply station valued at over $13 million. The newly operational infrastructure asset is designed to address the region’s rapidly growing water demands while systematically elevating public health standards, supporting local commercial activities, and improving the daily lives of residents across the province.

The grand opening ceremony was presided over by HE Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, who attended as the high representative of Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet. Speaking at the event, provincial governor HE Un Chanda disclosed that the state-of-the-art facility is strategically positioned in Ta Neng village, located within Sangkat Sambuor Meas of Kampong Cham municipality. The project stems from a long-term development strategy, with its foundational agreement originally signed on January 9, 2018, and construction reaching final completion on December 31, 2025.

According to ministerial assessments, the expansion of the provincial water network will immediately benefit an additional 8,875 families residing in Kampong Cham municipality and its surrounding suburban perimeter. Minister Hem Vanndy emphasized that access to clean, reliable utility services serves as a foundational pillar for regional socio-economic growth, providing the necessary conditions for households and businesses to thrive securely.

The capital layout for this massive infrastructure undertaking was made possible through a collaborative financial structure combining international development loans and national resources. Funding was jointly secured via credit lines from the Asian Development Bank and the Agence Française de Développement, alongside essential counterpart budget allocations from the Royal Government of Cambodia. To execute the engineering phase, the Ministry of Industry formalized a construction contract on August 29, 2022, partnering with the Beijing Urban Construction Group Company Limited to deliver the treatment facility and distribution pipelines.
