Bentley Introduces New OpenFlows 2026 to Modernize Water Infrastructure Modeling

Bentley Systems has officially introduced OpenFlows 2026, a significant update designed to help engineers analyze and design water, sewer, and storm networks with greater speed and efficiency. By integrating advanced digital tools, the software aims to eliminate common workflow bottlenecks and foster better cross-disciplinary collaboration.

A standout addition is the introduction of Bentley Copilot, an AI-powered assistant that allows engineers to interact with their hydraulic models using natural language. This feature enables users to query data, perform edits, and execute commands through simple conversation rather than navigating complex menus. This reduces manual effort, minimizes errors, and shortens the learning curve for new engineers.

To break down project silos, OpenFlows 2026 now features enhanced connectivity to digital twins and the Bentley Infrastructure Cloud. This transition allows teams to share models as accessible digital assets, enabling stakeholders to view hydraulic networks alongside other infrastructure in 2D or 3D environments. This unified perspective improves communication and helps teams identify potential design clashes before construction begins.

The release also addresses technical hurdles in data management and analysis. New native coordinate system support automates the alignment of external GIS data, terrain models, and maps, saving engineers the time previously spent on manual re-projection. Additionally, upgraded reporting tools now allow for instant 2D grid cell graphing and side-by-side scenario annotations.

These enhancements enable users to quickly compare design alternatives and visualize complex surface flow results, ultimately accelerating the engineering decision-making process.
