Ministry of Planning proposes US$14.4 billion budget for public investment

The Ministry of Planning is proposing a US$14.4 billion budget for public investment projects which is set to get approval from the cabinet in an upcoming meeting.

The proposed plan would mean that Cambodia needs about US$14.4 billion for 608 public investment projects in various sectors for a period of three years 2020-2023.

Speaking with government news agency Agence Kampuchea Presse (AKP), H.E Ek Tha, spokesman for the Council of Ministers said that following the meeting on 14 August, the proposed plan is expected to go to the cabinet soon.

“The proposed plan is expected to be approved by the Royal Government of Cambodia soon in the coming cabinet meeting,” AKP quoted him as saying.

According to the same source, the investment budget would see US$943.9 million allocated for the economic sector, US$7.79 billion for physical infrastructure, US$4.73 billion for the financial sector. Other sectors such as services will need about US$1.01 billion.

In addition, among the 608 projects, 171 projects are being implemented and need more than US$7.53 billion additional funding while the other 437 projects would need an additional US$6.95 billion funding.
