MOI Instructs Phnom Penh Authority to Regulate Parking Lots and Stop Construction on Public Land

HE Sar Kheng, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Ministry of Interior, has instructed the Phnom Penh Capital Administration to organise public parking lots in various locations and prevent illegal construction and business activities on public or roadside land. This instruction was given during the closing ceremony of the Phnom Penh Capital Administration’s 2022 Performance meeting on 10 March 2023. 

HE Sar Kheng recommended the establishment of public parking lots and encouraged private sector investment in such infrastructure to reduce parking on public roads. The minister also emphasised the need for adequate parking spaces in public and private buildings, and the development of transportation infrastructure to alleviate traffic congestion and improve safety. 

The ministry also urged the Phnom Penh Capital Administration to take hot measures to prevent illegal constructions on public land and roads, in line with relevant laws, documents, and technical standards, and in compliance with the Phnom Penh Land Use Master Plan. 

The move to prevent construction on public land in the city is aimed at ensuring sustainable development, order, and beauty in the administration of Phnom Penh. 

In related news, the Booyoung Group has expressed its intention to invest in the public transport sector, with plans to study the sector and deliver 200 public buses to Phnom Penh Capital Hall and 60 to the Sihanoukville Provincial Administration. 

Overall, these efforts are expected to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and enhance the overall liveability of Phnom Penh. (Read more)

Separately, HE also instructed the Phnom Penh Capital Administration to take hot measures to prevent all constructions on public land, land, roads, and illegal constructions in accordance with the law on construction, relevant documents, and technical standards, and comply with Phnom Penh Land Use Master Plan.

Preventing construction on public land in the city is to ensure the sustainable development of Phnom Penh, order, and beauty of Phnom Penh administration.
