In a strategic move to fortify Sihanoukville’s standing as a coastal tourism gem, the Ministry of Tourism (MOT) recently hosted a consultative workshop on the “Plan to Promote Investment and development of Coastal Tourism” on 8 November 2023, in Sihanoukville.

HE Un Wallerro, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Tourism, emphasized the province’s untapped potential for tourism and investment in the southwestern part of Cambodia. Against the backdrop of evolving global conditions, including the lingering impact of COVID-19, the workshop aimed to formulate policies and strategies that align with the ever-changing dynamics of the tourism sector.

HE Un Wallerro stressed the pivotal role of planning, management, and adept problem-solving to steer the tourism sector in the right direction. Acknowledging the fluctuating demands in the global and regional tourism landscape, he underscored the need for collaborative efforts to implement new policies that support the recovery and development of Cambodia’s tourism.

Emphasizing the essence of local participation and the protection of natural resources and culture, HE highlighted these as indispensable components in meeting the evolving needs of the tourism market.

In a complementary perspective, Mr Mang Sineth, Deputy Governor of Sihanoukville, positioned the plan as an integral facet of the green economy development in Sihanoukville, heralded by the government as the “green gold.” This forward-looking initiative seeks to inject immediate revenue into the economy, contribute to GDP growth, generate employment, and alleviate poverty.
