MPWT: Road Construction Strictly Monitored for Quality First

HE Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transport has provided a firm commitment that road construction must be strictly monitored. The minister stressed that construction companies must follow the techniques specified in the contract during a visit to inspect the progress of Roads 146B and 148 on 20 July.

The project to repair Road 146B-148 is 99.81% complete and has been tested in 414 places, with only two minor issues of lower quality which were nonetheless acceptable.

The ministry’s technical team has tested the quality of the construction of Road 146B using much modern equipment such as FWD, ROMDAS, GPR, Nuclear, and Pendulum to check whether the company has complied with the technical standards.

The minister has repeatedly explained the calculation of how roads become damaged by overweight trucks whereby a 10-ton truck has an equal impact to thousands of cars so if thousands of overweight trucks run on the road, it will be damaged before the scheduled end of its useful life.

Finally, HE Sun Chantol insisted that all road users respect the traffic law and the road law to reduce traffic accidents and stressed that the reduction of traffic accidents is the responsibility of all stakeholders; the government cannot resolve it alone.
