Study completed for bridge over Mekong in Kratie

The feasibility study for a bridge across the Mekong River connecting Kratie and Kompong Thom provinces has been completed and is now proceeding with a request for assistance from the Chinese government, according to Minister of Public Works and Transport during his inspection visit of National Road 7 (Kratie – Tbong Khmum).

“I stand in Kratie province and I want to inform you that Samdech Hun Sen had asked us to study the construction of another bridge across the Mekong River in Kratie so that our people in Kratie will have a short cut to travel to Kampong Thom through this bridge.”

H.E Sun Chanthol clarified that the study of the Mekong River bridge project in Kratie has been completed and is now ready for final financial approval between the Ministry of Public Works and the Ministry of Economy and Finance to negotiate a tender with a construction company.

So far, the project has been completed and is in the negotiation stage. The next step is to submit a project proposal to the Chinese government for a loan after the approval of the Cambodian prime minister.

A Mekong River bridge in Kratie would need to total 1,661 metres and is scheduled to be commenced in 2021 as previously mentioned by the Ministry of Public Works press conference on the achievements and progress of the Ministry of Public Works earlier in 2020.

According to the site selection, construction points may be made between Koh Trong and Koh Chang, according to the map. However, the exact location has not yet been confirmed by the minister, since it may be further away from the city to allocate space for future growth of Kratie town.
