New Phnom Penh Airport Site Untouched by Floods, Demonstrating Good Landscaping Design

The new Phnom Penh Airport construction site in Kandal province was not affected by the floods, although the areas around the site are flooded. This demonstrates the well-planned water management system and good landscaping architectural design.

The Secretariat of State for Civil Aviation’s Spokesman Mr Sin Chanseryvutha said the flood inundated the access roads to the construction site, causing only a slight impact on construction material transportation and difficulty for workers entering the site. However, the actual site is not flooded and still proceeds as normal.

“There is no problem at the site. The firm [OCIC] has already known the location is low land, so the site is well-equipped with effective prevention measures, including water reservoirs and flood management systems.

“In lowlands like this, effective water storage and drainage are very essential. As the company is doing so, by the time the construction is completed, the airport will be worry-free of floods,” he added.

The new Phnom Penh International Airport is a mega-development project in Cambodia, located on an area of 2,600 hectares in Prek Khiev commune, Kandal Stung district, Kandal province. The project is an investment by the Overseas Cambodia Investment Company (OCIC), worth approximately US$1.5 billion, and is divided into three phases. (Read more)
