New Public Beach Resort Development Proposed for Kampot Province

The Kampot Provincial Administration has given an initial green light to the proposal of developing a new beach resort along the Kampong Bay River but ordered the investment firm to submit a full report for approval before reaching the investment agreement signing stage.

Kampot Governor HE Cheav Tay expressed his support for the project after inspecting the actual site on Monday 20 September.

“The firm proposed to develop a 300-metre-long public beach along the Kampong Bay River located in Sangkat Kampong Kandal in downtown Kampot. After checking the site, it looks feasible, but the firm must study further,” said HE Cheav Tay.

“We have to ensure that the project gives the most benefits to the public. Most importantly, the development must be sustainable and cause very minimal impacts on the public good,” he added.

Nevertheless, HE Cheav Tay hopes that if approved, the project will help boost the tourism sector, create more businesses, and especially help improve local people’s livelihoods.
