New steel and power plants will spur development of Koh Kong province

Dara Sakor International Airport, Dara Sakor Deep Sea Port, a steel production factory and a power plant are transforming Cambodia’s Koh Kong province into a potential tourist centre both locally and regionally.

In addition to being well-known for major projects, including the airport and the construction of Star City by Chinese investors, Koh Kong is now preparing to study the possibility of installing a new steel plant and a power plant.

On 13 March 2020, Mr Nim Phirum, Deputy Governor of Kirir Sakor District Council and representatives of Celestial Company visited the Botum Sakor National Park area in Kiri Sakor district, Koh Kong province for a field observation for the heavy industrial investment project.

As a result, 836 hectares of land in Prek Ksach commune and another location in the former Paradise company area were studied to determine the size of the steel and power plants.

In addition, 400 hectares of land located within the Oknha Ly Yong Phat special economic zone was also studied and identified at the same time for the implementation of the deep-water port project.

Koh Kong has remarkable economic and tourism potential. Major investment projects are gradually expanding in this southwestern province. The reconstruction project of National Road 48 with the help of the Korean Government, the construction of National Road No. 10 through Chinese aid, the recently announced rehabilitation of the former Koh Kong airport located in Khemarak Phum City, and the Dara Sakura International Airport, which will be completed by this year, and other ongoing development projects in the Dara Sakor city area are evidence that Koh Kong will become an economic star in the southwest in the near future. (Read more) and (more)
