NR3 to Be Equipped with Two Weighing Stations and 11 Speed Cameras

National Road 3 (NR3) will be equipped with two weighing stations and 11 speed cameras to ensure safety and the quality of the road, as the renovation is approaching completion, according to Minister of Public Works and Transport HE Sun Chanthol.

HE Sun Chanthol said during the NR3 construction site on 04 January that the ministry also plans to equip axle weight sensors on both sides of the road, but it has yet to be finalised.

“We are still in discussion regarding the budget, as this is not included in the road renovation project budget. So far, we have already tested two sensors and they are both ready as long as we have the budget, so does the speed cameras,” he said.

The working group is also discussing whether to have both typical weighing stations and axle weight sensors.

As part of the renovation, NR3 will also have two pedestrian bridges in two highly-congested areas on which the government has just officially approved the construction despite local disputes. (Read more)

The construction of National Road 3 (Phnom Penh-Kampot) cost over US$219 million. To date, construction is 90% complete and scheduled for completion in September this year, which is ahead of schedule. (Read more)
