NR5 Prek Kdam – Battambang Section 63% Complete, Set to Open for Traffic in 2023

Construction of the NR5 Prek Kdam-Pursat and Pursat-Battambang section on average has been 63% completed and is scheduled to open for traffic next year.

The remarks were made by HE Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transport, at the construction contract agreement signing ceremony for NR5 Serei Sophorn-Poipet section on 24 March.

“The road section between Prek Kdam and Battambang is now about 63% complete, and we expect to see the full completion next year,” HE Sun Chanthol said.

The project to expand and renovate NR5 was carried out under a loan from Japan worth US$ 500 million and divided into four sections.

The Battambang – Serey Sophorn section was completed and inaugurated in January this year. The Prek Kdam – Pursat section and Pursat – Battambang are under construction. The construction agreement was just signed for the Serei Sophorn – Poipet section which is scheduled to see ground broken next month.

The ministry will soon open a tender for the construction of six weighing stations along the road to complete the whole upgrading project. (Read more)
