OCIC imports materiel to build cable-stayed concrete bridge connecting Diamond Island to Norea Island

Construction on the cable-stayed concrete bridge connecting Koh Pich to Norea Island is likely to begin soon after the Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation (OCIC) made requests for tax relief from the Ministry of Economy and Finance on the import of equipment, machinery and materials to build the bridge.

According to a letter from H.E Koung Sreng, Governor of the Board of Governors, to H.E Aun Porn Moniroth, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, the request by OCIC for the materials and machinery for the construction of the bridge to be imported with taxes under state duty total US$40,888, 580.

It should be noted that OCIC has received the Royal Government’s permission to develop this island, located in Chbar Ampov district, Phnom Penh, according to letter No. 1085 NS, dated 28 October 2018 from the Council of Ministers. As part of its project to develop Koh Norea, the letter states that OCIC will build a cable-stayed concrete bridge to connect Koh Pich to the Norea development project.

After its final completion, the bridge will reduce traffic congestion on Monivong Bridge to a large extent. More specifically, it will help connect transportation and economic activities from the Chroy Changva area, to Koh Pich to Boeng Snor, and to the Chbar Ampov area.

OCIC’s Deputy CEO, Touch Samnang, told Construction & Property Magazine on 08 February 2019 that OCIC is planning to transform Koh Norea Island along the Lower Mekong River (east of Koh Pich city) into a rich commercial city extending over an area of approximately 100 hectares by pouring land, sand, and gravel.
