Over 21,000m of Beaches & Surrounding Infrastructure Upgraded in SHV

The National Committee for Coastal Management and Development of Cambodia has to date upgraded a total of more than 21,000 metres of coastline beach and other surrounding infrastructure in Sihanoukville to attract more tourists after the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the committee’s online meeting on 21 July 21, the beach improvement work includes the restoration of the existing beaches with a total length of 18,874 metres from Sokha Beach to Ream Beach and the establishment of three new beaches with a total length of 3,134 metres.

The three beaches are Poy Ta Muong Beach, 1, Poy Ochheuteal Beach, and Poy Chumteav Mao Beach.

In terms of infrastructure work, in addition to the ongoing 34-road and 11-road projects, the committee has also built three new roads with a total length of over 2,400 metres, eight bridges and six canals.

The committee has also removed all types of temporary structures along the coast, replacing them with tourist stalls, sidewalks, public spaces, toilets, and parks.

Sihanoukville will soon become a multi-purpose special economic zone, as the government has been establishing special teams to accelerate the procedure. (Read more)
