Over 2,600 km of Cambodian Infrastructure Damaged by Floods

From September 1 until the evening of October 22, 2020, floods have damaged at least 2,693 km infrastructure nationwide, according to data from the National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM) on October 22.

The affected infrastructure includes national roads, provincial roads, red gravel roads (about 465 km), rural roads (about 1,665 km), dams (41 km), main canals (224 km), sub-canal (179 km), irrigation system (118 km), and river banks (about 1.6 km).

Besides public infrastructure, people houses, school, and many other facilities have also been ruined. As of today, 39 people were killed, and over 120,000 families were affected by the flood.

The affected capitals and provinces are Phnom Penh, Pursat, Pailin, Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Svay Rieng, Oddar Meanchey, Siem Reap, Takeo, Kampong Speu, Mondulkiri, Sihanoukville, Koh Kong, Preah Vihear, Stung Treng, Kampong Cham, Kandal, Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Thom.

In the meantime, relevant Ministries are actively working hard to prevent and solve the problems. Ministry of Public Works and Transport is one of those who committed to raising funds to repair flood-damaged infrastructure as soon as possible. (Read more)
